Covid 19

LOCKDOWN IN NEW ZEALAND 2020
On March the 23rd in 2020 our Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern said NZ had 24 hours until we were going to be at alert level 4 which meant that New Zealand would be in lockdown because of the virus COVID 19.

This virus originated from Wuhan, China. The Coronavirus was spread from animals and humans. It has spread all around the world, to 210 countries and territories too.  It  has been reported that there have been 2,994,958 confirmed cases of the virus. There have been 206,997 deaths in the world but NZ has had 19 deaths when I checked and hopefully there are NO MORE!

Since the lockdown started school and certain shops have been shut. Then only stores open are the essentials service are supermarkets, gas stations, doctors and pharmacies.

We’ve had to do our school work at home online everyday besides the weekends like normal. The ministry also sent out homeschooling kits to help parents know what to do with their kids.
Our class has morning meetings via video chat everyday to see what people have been up to and so we still stay in touch with people.

We have enjoyed being at home spending time together but we still miss some of our family and friends. We know this isn’t forever; it is just to keep the virus from getting out of control and it seems to be working. New Zealand has had low confirmed cases lately. The other day Jacinda Adern moved to alert level 3 but that still means we have to keep our bubbles small and have low contact with people.

  1. Hi Maliah
I like your summary of Covid 19. It has been strange times being at home for so long and doing schoolwork online. I agree with you that fingers crossed we have no more deaths in NZ and hopefully around the world the death rate slows down. It will be a great day when we can all go back to school and I see all you guys playing together again. You are really lucky to have a lovely big family to be in lockdown with. Lots of fun with your sisters and baby brother.

    1. Thank you Andrea
I really do hope there is no more deaths or confirmed cases in our country. I also can not wait to see everyone back at school and for it to back to normal again.
      Hope all is well

  2. Great summary, Maliah. You have given the important information and what you thought about it. It has certainly been a strange time, but as you mentioned, a nice time to spend with our families. This will be something that you remember for a very long time. My mum is 81, she can remember the polio epidemic. This was the last time schools closed, she was away from school for 11 weeks.

  3. Hi Maliah! My name is Mia from Yaldhurst Model School. Great work! I really loved your summary, it's really good and descriptive.

I am finding it a bit lonely sometimes that I am not able to talk to my friends as much when I was back at school. But! on the upside! I get to spend more time with my family. Hopefully we will be able to go back to school soon! When do you think that will be?

To improve, maybe you could try adding some pictures or add some more things about what you have been doing at home.

    Awesome work!
    Mia
